Downtown Revitalization and Property Accountability

Downtown St. Cloud reflects the health of the city as a whole. With the county moving out of downtown, the impact of vacancy and underused space will become even more visible.

I am interested in pursuing policies that address long-term vacant commercial properties. This includes:

1. Encouraging property owners to present plans for occupancy or redevelopment
2. Exploring penalties for buildings that have remained vacant for extended periods, such as five years or more
3. Creating incentives for property turnover when owners are unwilling to invest in necessary improvements

The goal is to see more active use of existing spaces rather than continued vacancy.

In addition, I believe in actively supporting the businesses that have remained committed to downtown by recognizing their investment and choosing to patronize them personally.

Housing Transparency and Smart Growth

Housing in St. Cloud should be clear, fair, and workable for all residents, whether they are renters or property owners.

I want to make the process of owning and managing rental properties easier to understand so expectations are not buried in confusion or inconsistency.

I am also focused on:

1. Encouraging responsible property ownership and upkeep
2. Supporting practical pathways to homeownership
3. Reviewing and removing regulations that unnecessarily restrict how people can use their property, including reasonable uses like small-scale urban agriculture.(yes, chickens) where appropriate

When it comes to affordable housing, I am not interested in broad slogans or policies that sound good but create unintended consequences. Rent control and similar approaches often reduce supply and discourage investment.

I want to focus on solutions that actually increase housing availability, encourage development, and make it easier for people to own and maintain property in St. Cloud.
